Hindi Medium review

Hindi medium is yet another parody on the Indian education system… On the nursery admission to be precise…in the capital

The first half is v accurate… Of what actually happens in Dilli… And is a real laugh riot…
But the second half gets too serious, hurried n inconsistent… And made to meander towards a melodramatic end… Really let’s down a movie… That makes all the right noises in the first half…
And a large part of the credit should go to Irfaan Khan alone…his dialogue delivery was always right up there…but importantly it’s his body language that has really improved… And actually looks so reassured and classy even in the scenes where he’s playing a  crass dilliwala… And the biggest takeaway post his Hollywood return is that he’s no more awed by anyone and his body language does not change in front of anyone… Least of all the heroines (unlike even the Superstar Khans n Akshay)… Brilliant !!
Here’s an actor Who’s just come to do his bit … And not to have some fun with the young heroine he s paired with …in a few scenes ( so de rigueur with the other superstars)

Dilip Dobrial as usual is brilliant… no !not in a comic role but in a v serious role !
The women r a disappointment
Esp Amrita – that Chameli ki shaadi firebrand could not even scream properly at a parent …V disappointing
But most disappointing or disgusting actually is again a Paki bimbo being picked to play the lead… When anyone else could have done it just as well… Even a Neha Dhupia who has a 4 min role in the movie… Who actually chews up the Paki in the only interaction that they have ! If only she’d been paired opp irfan …
If only there was a better writing,editing
And direction( esp when it’s a straight lift of a Bengali movie)….If only the director would have kept the movie just as light in the second half
And still got his message across
Emotionally he got a few scenes wrong but they still go down with some
But when u start underestimating the intellect of the viewer and start lecturing him…u lose the plot !

Thank God for Irfan… This movie is still more watchable than most movies around… For noone delivers dialogues like him… From outa the blue… dead pan expression key sath… From mouthing funny lines to angry ones … He’s flawless… Without resorting to twitching his eyebrows, flexing his muscles or changing his expression he delivers a brilliant performance on the basis of his timing, dialogue delivery and tone alone…
2 scenes stand out… Sitting on the dining table and outa the blue saying ‘ Hum kitney kaminey hain’ with so much venom…or telling his hysterical wife in the climax… Why hes always listened to her but can’t listen to her just this one time !!!
